Wristbands for student events: freshers' week, balls and society nights

Freshers' week, graduation balls, society nights and spring balls have the same problem as a nightclub: lots of guests in a short time, entry in waves and a bar with an age limit. A wristband in the right colour solves it at the door.

Which wristband suits?

Vinyl is the standard choice for an evening or a weekend. It is an L-shaped band with a snap closure, it handles water and sweat, and it comes in 29 band colours from the factory's colour chart. The print is one colour, for example the society's name, plus a second line such as ENTRY or 18+.

Woven (polyester) suits a band that has to stay on for several days, such as a freshers' week, or when you want a crest or logo in colour. Woven wristbands are printed in full colour, edge to edge.

Both close with a single-use lock and have to be cut off. Read more in the guide to security and single-use locks.

One colour system for the night

  • Entry: a bright signal colour that shows up in the dark, such as neon yellow or neon green.
  • 18+: its own colour, put on after an ID check. Age limits differ from country to country, so check the local rules with your venue or licensing authority. The band shows that the check has been done, but it does not take away the seller's responsibility. See the guide to age verification wristbands.
  • Stewards and committee: a colour that doesn't look like any guest colour, with the role printed on the band.
  • Re-entry: the same band is valid all evening. Change the colour the next evening, so yesterday's band can't be used again.

On vinyl, the same print in several band colours doesn't count as an extra print. If you print the variant's name on the band (ENTRY, 18+, STEWARD), each name is a print of its own. The price box in the configurator shows what that costs.

SPRING BALL 2027ENTRY
ENTRY | 15 neon yellow | black ink
SPRING BALL 202718+
18+ | 9 neon blue | white ink
SPRING BALL 2027STEWARD
STEWARD | 3 red | white ink

Logo and crest

On vinyl, the logo is printed as a silhouette in the ink colour. A crest with lots of fine detail can become unclear on a band that is 16 mm high, and the configurator flags details that are too thin for the print. If you have a simplified version of the crest, use that.

If you want the crest in colour, choose a woven wristband. Upload a vector file (PDF, AI, EPS or SVG) as an original file with the order.

Plan beyond the committee year

Student committees change every term or year, and whoever placed the last order has often moved on. Save the order link where the next committee can find it. The order page shows the approved proof and has an Order again button.

If the treasurer or president has to approve first, press Share draft in the configurator and send the link. You pay at checkout when you order.

Questions and answers

When do we need to order wristbands for a ball or freshers' week?+

Delivery takes 2–3 weeks from approved proof. If you want a margin, order at least six weeks before the event. The checkout shows the delivery window with dates before you order.

Can we have different bands for entry, 18+ and stewards?+

Yes. Add one variant per category in the same order, at least 100 pcs each. The volume price is calculated on all vinyl wristbands in the order together.

Can the next committee order the same bands again?+

Yes. The order page has an Order again button, which opens the same design in the configurator. Change the year and date and approve a new proof.
