Festival wristbands with a logo: how the printing works

Vinyl and woven wristbands are printed in completely different ways. That decides how your logo looks, which colours are possible and which file you need.

Vinyl: one-colour screen print

The vinyl band is screen printed. The ink is pressed through a screen, one colour at a time. With us the print is one colour per band, chosen from 10 print colours, including gold and silver.

For your logo, that means:

  • The logo is printed as a silhouette in the print colour. Colours and gradients become a single colour.
  • The designer removes the background and shows what the silhouette will look like. You choose whether the whole shape, the dark parts or the light parts are printed.
  • Thin lines disappear. The designer marks details that are too thin for vinyl printing in red.
  • The same print can go on several band colours. Five role colours with the same print count as one print.

Woven: full-colour sublimation

The woven band is printed by dye sublimation. The colour turns to vapour and goes into the polyester fibre instead of sitting on top, so the print does not crack or flake off in normal use.

For your logo, that means:

  • The logo is printed in colour, as in the file. Gradients, photos and patterns cost nothing extra.
  • The print runs edge to edge, so the background of the band can also be an image (Own design in the designer).
  • Printing is in full colour. Brand colours come close, but an exact Pantone match cannot be guaranteed.

EPS is only saved as an original file. Upload the logo as a PNG or PDF as well, so that the proof can be drawn.

Images under 300 dpi at the printed size give a warning. Vector files do not, because they are sharp at any size. A logo taken from a web page is usually too small. Ask for the vector file.

Logo and text on the same band

The band is 15–16 mm tall. A logo, the event name and a second line fit, but not much more. Make the event name and the day or zone the largest. Date, web address and hashtag are the first things to drop.

On the woven band, the ends sit inside the clasp. Put what matters in the middle. The format and template are covered in the guide to designing festival wristbands.

The proof

The proof is drawn as you design and is what gets made. Approve it only when the texts, dates, colours and quantities are right. The order is binding once it is placed.

Questions and answers

Can the logo be printed in colour on vinyl bands?+

No. The vinyl band is printed in one colour, so the logo is printed as a silhouette in the print colour. If you want the logo in colour, choose the woven band.

Which file should we send?+

PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG, PDF or AI for the preview in the designer. Attach a vector file (PDF, AI, EPS or SVG) as the original file with the order, and it will be used in production.

Why does the designer warn about the logo?+

Either the image has too low a resolution for printing, or the logo has details that are too thin for vinyl printing. Upload a larger file or a simplified logo.
